Folk2Folk gains FCA authorisation

Submitted by SkinnerV on

Today we are delighted to share some exciting news and a significant milestone for Folk2Folk as a P2P lending business as we are now fully authorised by the FCA.    Regulation is a huge deal for the P2P industry in the UK and for us at Folk2Folk. Being regulated helps build trust with clients looking to invest, businesses looking to borrow and introducers. Being granted authorisation means platforms like Folk2Folk have met a strict set of criteria outlined by the FCA and this confirms that the FCA is satisfied that Folk2Folk meets those standards to offer P2P lending as a financial service.  Folk2Folk has also been given its full permission by the FCA ahead of many of the UK’s larger and leading P2P platforms. We believe this speaks volumes about our matching process and business model.

The authorisation process has been a lengthy one having started back in April 2014 when the industry’s platforms were awarded interim permissions, to then last August when platforms were able to submit their applications. During this time our expert team has provided countless answers and details to the FCA to support our case and get Folk2Folk fully authorised. We’d like to thank our team and customers for your patience and support.

By being fully FCA authorised, we can now look to offer the Innovative Finance ISA (IFISA) to customers in due course, subject to HMRC approval.

Our CEO, Jane Dumeresque had this to say about the news, “We are delighted that the FCA has granted Folk2Folk its full authorisation for peer-to-peer lending. We believe this will act as a positive sign to investors as well as business professionals that are looking to partner with a trusted and fully authorised platform like Folk2Folk. Our mission is to help local businesses get access to the finance they need by matching them to local investors in a quick, simple and easy process. Folk2Folk remains a business of the people, for the people by the people and is proud to be a national lender that operates locally. This decision is significant as it makes us eligible to offer our IFISA in due course.”
